New Course: Periodization for Athletic Performance

We are thrilled to introduce the Periodization for Athletic Performance Course to the #VoltFamily!

Volt users can maximize the effectiveness of their strength and conditioning by understanding the foundational training principles of the Volt training methodology.

There is no shortage of reading material when it comes to topics such as periodization, strength training, plyometrics, hypertrophy, powerlifting, olympic weightlifting, speed training, and agility. Many of the greatest strength coaches throughout history have published volumes of work that describe their entire training philosophy and methodologies in excruciating detail.

And even today, modern coaches, trainers, and other human performance specialists are reviewing the literature, publishing new science, and sharing key insights across social media platforms, blogs, and podcasts. Our field is experiencing a professional renaissance, due in large part to recent advances in technology and information sharing!

The abundance of information is exciting, but also daunting — this is a great place to start.

What topic should I start with? Which sources can I trust? Do I need an exercise science degree to understand these books? Should I spend money on a certification? Can I apply what I learn right away? Are the Soviet training methods from the 1980s safe for my high school basketball players?

By offering courses that introduce Volt’s core training principles, we can help you get started on the right learning path!

Here’s what to expect from Volt Courses.

Each course will be shorter than an episode of your favorite HBO special (less than an hour) and will provide you with a baseline understanding of particular principles. We may only scratch the surface of some of our bigger topics, but after completing each course you will have an increased level of understanding and a renewed desire to learn more!

In this 35-minute course, we’ll provide an overview of the vast topic of Periodization as it relates to athletic performance development.

The course is designed for individuals with a beginner-to-intermediate educational background in strength and conditioning principles and training theory. If you are a coach or trainer, you'll walk away with a deeper understanding of how a periodized strength and conditioning program (such as is provided by Volt) helps to develop athletic ability and sustain performance potential throughout a competitive season.

With this knowledge, you'll be better equipped to communicate the Why, How, and What to your athletes and/or clients.
