How to Get a Great At-Home Workout with Volt

Let’s be real: it’s a strange, scary time in our world right now. From cancelled classes to social distancing and empty grocery store shelves (who is buying up all the toilet paper?!), so many people around the world are dealing with disruptions to our daily lives. And while a workout routine can seem like the least of our worries, if you’re like me, physical activity is an important method for staying healthy and managing anxiety, especially in uncertain times.

As my colleagues and I at Volt HQ in Seattle, WA, are adopting strict work-from-home policies to help fight the spread of coronavirus, we’re thinking about ways we can help out the #VoltFamily, even the tiniest bit, by making it easier for you to maintain your training routine with quality workouts, whether you’re in the gym or your living room.

If you can’t get to the gym right now, here are 3 quick tips on how Volt can modify your workouts to fit your equipment—even if you only have your own bodyweight to work with!

1. Replace Weights with Your Bodyweight

You’re probably already familiar with Movement Replacements, which allow you to swap out any exercise in your Volt program. But did you know that Volt provides six Recommended Replacements for you, and always includes at least one bodyweight-only alternative?

To make a movement replacement from the home screen, tap the photo of the exercise to open Movement Info, then tap the “replace” icon in the top right. Select the bodyweight option from the Recommended Replacements, and tap Choose This Movement.

Pro Tip: We recommend replacing the movement for the Entire Block, which will carry your change across your current block of training.

If you don’t like the bodyweight alternative recommended for you, type “bw” into the search bar to search the Movement Library for exercises that don’t require bodyweight.

2. Do a Bodyweight Warm-up

Warming up before exercise is always recommended, and Volt has some bodyweight-only warm-up routines for you to do when training at home. These warm-ups are built into every workout—simply tap Start Workout, complete the Readiness Check-in, then choose one of the Bodyweight options from the Warm-up screen.

3. Try a Training Extra

At the bottom of the home screen, Volt has a variety of low- and no-equipment routines to help you fight boredom when your living room is your gym. Try a Primer before your workout, a Finisher after your workout, or put a couple routines together to create your own training session!

Stay Safe, #VoltFamily!

From the team at Volt HQ, we wish you all the best as we face this challenge together. And if getting in a good training session is the only thing keeping you sane right now—hey, we get it! Please reach out to us at support@voltathletics.com is there is anything we can do to help support you. In the meantime, we’ll just be over here washing our hands.
